According to reports, Iran has established an extensive network of underground tunnels and natural salt caves inside the island, where coastal missile systems, high-speed attack boats and other sensitive military equipment are stored.

The Iranian "missile cities" under Qeshm Island are also a major cause of American concern. These underground military installations are equipped with coastal missiles that are intended to control or block shipping in the Strait of Hormuz in a war situation.
