According to Reuters, Israeli officials have indicated that preparations are underway for a key meeting in Islamabad. The talks could be attended by US Vice President JD Vance, while Iran may be represented by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and other senior officials.
US President Donald Trump recently stated that “very strong” discussions had taken place with Iran and that agreement had been reached on several points.
He added that strikes on Iran’s energy infrastructure had been temporarily halted to allow space for diplomacy, but warned that military action could resume if talks fail.
Iran, however, has rejected these claims, stating that no direct negotiations with the United States have taken place over the past 24 days. Iran’s foreign ministry said the US statements are aimed at controlling energy prices and buying time for military planning.
Meanwhile, Turkey, Pakistan, and Egypt are actively engaged in behind-the-scenes diplomatic efforts, facilitating communication between the two sides.
Reports indicate that foreign ministers from these countries have held separate meetings with US envoy Steve Witkoff and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
Israeli media also suggest that Jared Kushner may be part of the US delegation. Sources say the mediation is progressing, with discussions focused on ending the conflict and resolving outstanding issues.
Iranian officials say they have received messages from friendly countries indicating that the US is seeking negotiations to end the war, but Tehran has not yet issued a formal response.
If successful, these diplomatic efforts could position Islamabad as a key venue for international negotiations and pave the way for a potential agreement between the United States and Iran.
