According to US media reports, the storm has caused severe weather conditions across the eastern coastal states, with strong winds and heavy rainfall triggering flooding in several areas.
Media reports said winds of up to 100 kilometres per hour were recorded in coastal areas, while residential areas were inundated by heavy rain and several trees were knocked down.
Cars were seen submerged in several feet of water, while more than 100,000 customers in the affected states were left without electricity.
The severe weather also disrupted air travel, with 445 flights cancelled and more than 3,000 delayed.
Meanwhile, emergencies have been declared in affected counties in New York and New Jersey. Authorities have urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel.
The weather service said strong winds, rain and flooding are expected to continue across the Mid-Atlantic and New England regions through Monday.
