The prime minister is accompanied by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, and Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar.
Upon arrival at Doha International Airport, Prime Minister Shehbaz, Nawaz Sharif and the Pakistani delegation were received by Qatar s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Sheikh Saud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan bin Ali Al Thani.
During the visit, Prime Minister Shehbaz will travel to Lusail Palace for a meeting with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
The premier will convey Pakistan s heartfelt condolences to the Emir, the Qatari royal family and the people of Qatar on the passing of the former emir.
On Sunday, Prime Minister Shehbaz expressed deep sorrow over Sheikh Hamad s death, describing him as "a great leader and statesman whose wisdom, foresight and dedication to public service transformed Qatar into a modern, prosperous and globally respected nation."
As a mark of solidarity with Qatar, the prime minister declared July 13, 2026, a day of national mourning in Pakistan. National flags were flown at half-mast across the country in honour of the late Qatari leader.
Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani passed away at the age of 74, Qatar s Amiri Diwan announced on Sunday.
He ruled Qatar from 1995 until 2013, when he voluntarily transferred power to his son, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the country s current emir.
During his tenure, Sheikh Hamad oversaw Qatar s transformation into one of the world s leading exporters of liquefied natural gas, expanded its global investment portfolio and strengthened its role in regional diplomacy and international media.
