In a post on X, Pezeshkian said he directed Iran’s foreign minister to pursue negotiations, provided the environment is free from threats and unreasonable demands. He stressed that any talks would take place within the framework of Iran’s national interests and aim for a fair and equitable outcome.
Trump has said he remains hopeful of reaching a deal with Tehran but warned that “bad things would happen” if negotiations fail. Meanwhile, the United States recently deployed an aircraft carrier group to the Middle East after anti-government protests surged in Iran last month.
Tehran has reiterated its preference for diplomacy while warning of a strong response to any aggression. Iranian officials have repeatedly insisted that discussions should focus only on the nuclear issue, rejecting negotiations over the country’s missile programme or broader defence capabilities.
