Speaking about the growing tensions in the region, Prince Turki noted that the political atmosphere is simply not ripe for reconciliation. According to him, the idea of restoring or building formal ties with Israel ‘does not match the reality on the ground.’

He pointed out that the rising friction involving Iran has further complicated matters. In his view, the confrontation with Iran reflects policies pushed strongly by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who had earlier persuaded former U.S. President Donald Trump to stand firmly behind his approach toward Tehran.

Prince Turki suggested that these policies have added fuel to an already tense regional landscape. ‘When tempers are high and trust is thin, diplomacy becomes a steep climb,’ he implied, stressing that stability cannot grow in an environment dominated by rivalry and suspicion.

He also emphasized that lasting peace in the region cannot be achieved without addressing the long standing Palestine issue. According to him, any attempt to move forward diplomatically while leaving the Palestinian question unresolved would be like ‘building a house without a foundation.’

The former intelligence chief further warned that the rising tensions are not only political. They are beginning to ripple through economic and security spheres as well, casting a shadow over regional cooperation and development.

Prince Turki urged the international community to step in with a balanced and responsible approach. Calm dialogue, patient diplomacy, and collective effort, he said, are essential to prevent the situation from sliding further out of control.

His remarks signal that, at least for now, the road to normalization between Riyadh and Tel Aviv looks long and uncertain. With tensions simmering across the Middle East, many regional and global powers are watching closely, aware that even small shifts in policy could reshape the region’s fragile balance.
