In an interview, Sameer reflected on his cricket journey, saying that his passion for the game began with playing street cricket and matches with his brother at home.

“My journey started with street cricket and playing with my brother at home. Later, my father enrolled us in an academy, and that was where my proper cricket career began,” Sameer said.

The young batter revealed that he initially started as a leg-spinner and tried to follow the style of former Pakistan spinner Yasir Shah before eventually making his mark as a batter.

Sameer also praised the role of his long-time coach Tahir Mahmood Faiz, saying his coach recognized his batting and fielding abilities and encouraged him to take cricket seriously.

“My coach identified my skills in batting and fielding and motivated me to focus on cricket. I have been training under his guidance since 2013,” he said.

Focus on Fitness and Training

Speaking about the importance of fitness, Sameer said his father emphasized exercise and a balanced diet from an early age.

“If you want to play cricket for a long time, regular training and proper nutrition are extremely important. I started serious training after the Under-16 level because I knew the next major step was Under-19 cricket,” he said.

Sameer also highlighted the importance of age-group training camps, saying that working with different coaches and trainers helps players improve their skills.

He described the Under-19 program in Multan as a valuable experience, where top-performing players from across the country received quality training and the foundation for team selection was developed.

Fearless Batting Approach

Discussing his batting strategy during the ACC Under-19 Asia Cup, Sameer said his aim was to maintain an attacking approach while rotating the strike.

“My effort was to hit at least one boundary in every over, especially during the powerplay, and then keep rotating the strike. Against India, our coaches told us to play fearless and positive cricket without worrying about the result, and we followed that approach,” he said.

PSL Experience and Confidence Boost

Talking about his experience in the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL), Sameer thanked Islamabad United’s management and former cricketer Luke Ronchi for their support.

He said they encouraged him not to worry about the number of runs he scored and instead focus on enjoying his batting and playing his natural game.

“That confidence removed pressure from me and allowed me to express myself on the field,” Sameer said.

Dream of Representing Pakistan in All Formats

Sameer said his goal is to represent Pakistan in all three formats of international cricket.

According to him, red-ball cricket helps develop patience, temperament, and technique, while white-ball cricket requires a smart and aggressive approach to succeed.
