The washout means Pakistan missed a valuable chance to adjust to Sri Lankan conditions before the start of the tournament. With no practice match in match-like pressure, the team now heads into the World Cup without a proper on field rehearsal.
Pakistan will begin their T20 World Cup campaign on 7 February against the Netherlands, with the match set to be played at the same Colombo venue. They will also play two more group-stage matches there against the United States on 10 February and Namibia on 18 February.
Originally, Pakistan were due to face their traditional rivals India on 15 February in Colombo. However, the Government of Pakistan has decided not to allow the national team to play the group match against India.
With rain disrupting plans and a key fixture taken off the table, Pakistan’s road into the tournament has already been anything but smooth. The team will now have to rely on discipline, adaptability, and calm heads as they step into the global stage without a warm up safety net.
