President Pezeshkian arrived in Islamabad earlier in the day on a day-long visit, following Islamabad-mediated US-Iran talks in Switzerland that reportedly produced a 60-day roadmap toward a broader agreement. The visit marked his first foreign trip since the recent Iran conflict involving US and Israeli strikes earlier this year.
He was received at the airport with a guard of honour and a red carpet welcome, attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, President Zardari, and senior leadership. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also accompanied him.
During his meeting at the Presidency, both sides discussed bilateral relations, regional security, economic cooperation, and connectivity. President Zardari welcomed the visit and said it reflected the “brotherly relations” between Pakistan and Iran, adding that Islamabad supports dialogue and diplomacy as the only path to resolving conflicts.
Zardari reiterated Pakistan’s support for Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and said Islamabad opposes unilateral actions in regional disputes. He also expressed condolences over the reported martyrdom of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Hosseini Khamenei and said Pakistan would participate in his funeral.
Pezeshkian thanked Pakistan for its role in promoting peace and dialogue, saying Tehran attaches great importance to relations with Islamabad and seeks deeper cooperation in political, economic, and security fields.
Separately, Chief of Defence Forces and Army Chief Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir also met the Iranian president, where both sides exchanged views on regional developments and reaffirmed commitment to stability and continued cooperation.
The Iranian president said Pakistan’s efforts to support de-escalation and dialogue were “responsible and constructive” and welcomed continued engagement among regional stakeholders.
