In an official statement, the ICC said that Bangladesh’s matches will be played in India as planned. The decision was taken during a board meeting after a comprehensive security assessment.

According to the ICC, the review concluded that there is no security threat to Bangladeshi players, media personnel, officials, or fans at any of the venues in India. The statement added that board members agreed that making changes to the schedule so close to the tournament is not feasible.

The ICC further stated that the tournament’s security plan has been consistently shared with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) throughout the process.

Meanwhile, a cricket website has claimed that the ICC is prepared to include another team in the tournament if Bangladesh refuses to travel to India.

According to the report, the ICC has informed the BCB that if the Bangladeshi government decides not to allow the team to tour India, Bangladesh could be replaced by another team in the World Cup.

It is worth noting that Bangladesh had requested that its matches scheduled in India be shifted to Sri Lanka due to security concerns.

The controversy began after Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Kolkata Knight Riders dropped Bangladeshi fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman from the league following threats allegedly issued by Indian Hindu extremist groups.

The incident strained relations between the two cricket boards, prompting the Bangladesh Cricket Board to convene an emergency meeting and announce that it would not send its team to India under the prevailing circumstances.
