According to Forbes, the iPhone 18 Pro Max is expected to come with a battery capacity of more than 5,500mAh, while its weight could reach around 240 grams. If these reports are accurate, it would become one of the heaviest models in Apple’s iPhone lineup.
Popular tech leaker Ice Universe shared details on Chinese social media platform Weibo, claiming that the iPhone 18 Pro Max could feature a 5,500mAh battery. However, users may have to handle a heavier device with a thickness of nearly 9mm.
Forbes senior technology writer David Phelan said that a 240-gram weight would match the heaviest iPhone ever made. The iPhone 13 Pro Max, launched in 2021, also weighed 240 grams.
The current iPhone 17 Pro Max weighs around 233 grams, meaning the upcoming model could be about 7 grams heavier. Although the difference appears small, users noticed a significant weight reduction when Apple introduced the titanium design in the iPhone 15 Pro Max, replacing stainless steel.
Reports based on regulatory information suggest that the iPhone 18 Pro Max could have a 5,567mAh battery in the US version, while the Chinese variant may feature a slightly smaller 5,391mAh battery due to the physical SIM card slot.
However, experts point out that a bigger battery does not always mean several extra days of battery life. Apple has previously increased battery capacity to support new technologies and advanced features while maintaining overall battery performance.
According to David Phelan, the additional battery capacity could mainly support Apple’s upcoming artificial intelligence features, especially improvements in Siri AI. The extra power may be used to run more advanced AI functions rather than simply extending usage time.
Reports also suggest that the iPhone 18 Pro Max could be thicker than previous models. If the thickness reaches 9mm, using a protective case could make one-handed use more difficult.
There are also rumors that Apple may introduce its first foldable smartphone during the same launch event, possibly called the iPhone Ultra. The foldable device could be heavier than the iPhone 18 Pro Max.
