The company’s expected Initial Public Offering (IPO) is being described as the biggest stock market debut in Wall Street history. SpaceX has announced that it will list under the ticker symbol “SPCX”, allowing the public its first detailed look into the company’s finances, leadership, and long-term ambitions.
According to reports, SpaceX has valued itself at nearly $1.25 trillion. Based on this valuation, Elon Musk’s majority stake in the company could be worth more than $600 billion. Combined with his holdings in other companies and assets, Musk’s total net worth could potentially cross the historic $1 trillion mark.
Last year, Musk already became the first person in history to surpass a net worth of $500 billion. He is also the chief executive of Tesla and controls more than 85 percent of SpaceX’s voting power.
IPO documents revealed that Musk serves as chairman of SpaceX, while company president and chief operating officer Gwynne Shotwell is also part of the board.
SpaceX has disclosed that if the company’s valuation reaches $7.5 trillion and a permanent human colony of at least one million people is established on Mars, Musk could receive millions of additional shares.
The company stated that its mission is not limited to building rockets, but to expand human life across multiple planets. SpaceX plans to establish bases on the Moon and eventually build cities on other planets.
After launching Starlink, its satellite internet service, SpaceX has also heavily invested in artificial intelligence (AI).
The company believes that future opportunities in AI, space-based data centers, satellite communications, and enterprise technologies could create a market worth as much as $28.5 trillion.
Reports indicate that SpaceX generated $18.6 billion in revenue last year but still recorded a net loss of $4.9 billion. In the first quarter of this year alone, the company earned $4.7 billion in sales while posting another loss of $4.3 billion.
SpaceX currently holds assets worth $102 billion, while its debt has reached $60.5 billion. Most of the company’s spending is focused on AI infrastructure, Starlink satellites, and future space missions.
Founded in 2002 as a rocket company, SpaceX has now become one of the world’s most influential technology firms, leading the race in space exploration, artificial intelligence, and the vision of making humanity a multi-planetary species.
