Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed authorities to ensure that neither passenger fares nor freight charges see any upward revision during this period. The instruction is clear and firm: no added burden on the public, especially at a time when household budgets are already stretched thin.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the decision reflects a broader commitment to ‘keeping the wheels of relief in motion’ for economically vulnerable segments of society.

The subsidy, initially approved last month, covers motorcyclists as well as public and goods transport sectors, and will now continue for an additional month.

Officials describe the move as part of a ‘targeted relief strategy’ designed to deliver practical support rather than symbolic gestures. The government has emphasized strict monitoring to ensure that the benefits flow directly to those who need them most, without leakage or delay.

In parallel measures, provincial governments in Punjab and Sindh had already stepped in with their own support packages, including monthly assistance for eligible motorbike owners. Islamabad also previously announced free public transport services through the end of April, while railway economy class fares were frozen to prevent further strain on travelers.

The Prime Minister reiterated that easing the burden on ordinary citizens remains the government’s top priority. ‘We will continue to extend every possible relief under challenging circumstances,’ he noted, expressing hope for regional stability that could eventually bring fuel prices under control.

For now, the message from the government is consistent and loud: in uncertain times, public relief is not a privilege, it is a necessity, and it will not be withdrawn quietly.
