Accompanied by a high-level Pakistani delegation, the prime minister and the army chief visited the late leader s coffin before participating in the funeral prayers.
Prime Minister Shehbaz paid tribute to Ayatollah Khamenei s services to Islam, saying he had guided the Iranian nation with wisdom, insight and foresight for decades. He also expressed solidarity with Iran s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, President Masoud Pezeshkian and the people of Iran during their time of grief.
A parliamentary delegation led by Senate Chairman Yousaf Raza Gilani and National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, along with members of parliament and Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, also attended the funeral.
After the funeral prayers, Prime Minister Shehbaz departed for Istanbul on an official visit to Türkiye.
Separately, Field Marshal Asim Munir met Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and paid tribute to the late supreme leader.
Prime Minister Shehbaz and Field Marshal Munir arrived in Tehran earlier in the day, where they were received at Mehrabad Airport by Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni and senior Pakistani and Iranian officials.
The Pakistani delegation included Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq and Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was martyred on February 28 during the first day of Israeli and US strikes on Iran. His funeral prayers were held in Tehran, while his burial is scheduled for July 9 in his hometown of Mashhad.
