Sources said the current financial structure for central contracts will expire on June 30. The existing three-year model was introduced in 2023 during the tenure of former PCB chairman Zaka Ashraf and has continued under current chairman Mohsin Naqvi.
Preliminary discussions regarding the new contracts are currently underway, while the final decision on the revised financial model is expected to be made by Naqvi.
Last year, the PCB awarded central contracts to 30 cricketers, with no player placed in Category A for the first time in the board’s history.
The upcoming contracts are likely to include major revisions based on players’ recent performances and fitness standards, with several players expected to be promoted or downgraded across categories.
According to sources, the chances of Mohammad Nawaz, Abdullah Shafique, Faheem Ashraf, Hussain Talat and Khushdil Shah being retained in the new central contract list appear low.
Meanwhile, emerging domestic performers including Azan Awais and Abdullah Fazal are likely to be considered for inclusion in the upcoming contract cycle following their recent performances.
