Addressing a UN Security Council debate, the envoy highlighted the interconnected crises gripping the region and stressed the urgent need for de-escalation. He emphasised adherence to international law, the UN Charter, and Security Council resolutions as essential to preventing further conflict.
Focusing on the situation in Gaza Strip, he said that while a ceasefire had offered some relief, conditions remained fragile, with continued violations and civilian casualties reported. He underscored the need for sustained and unhindered humanitarian assistance to address the worsening situation on the ground.
The ambassador also raised concerns over developments in the West Bank, pointing to increasing violence, settlement expansion, and legislative measures that he described as violations of international law.
Highlighting broader geopolitical risks, he warned that tensions were impacting global stability, particularly through disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for global energy supplies.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s stance, Ahmad stressed that the Palestinian issue remains central to achieving lasting peace in the region. He reiterated that a just and comprehensive resolution, including the establishment of a Palestinian state, is vital for long-term stability.
Pakistan, he added, will continue to support diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions and promoting dialogue in the Middle East.
