Addressing the National Assembly, the prime minister said the agreement between the United States and Iran marked a historic turning point that had brought an end to months of conflict that caused widespread destruction and global economic disruption. He said the world had witnessed a shift from war to peace and described the moment as one that would be remembered in history.
He said the deal represented not just an agreement between two countries but a broader success for peace, dialogue and diplomacy. He added that under the framework, both sides had agreed to an immediate and permanent cessation of military operations on all fronts, including the Lebanon theatre.
The prime minister said Pakistan was honoured to play a facilitative role in the diplomatic process and thanked political leadership across parties for their support. He also extended appreciation to international leaders including the leadership of the United States and Iran, as well as Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and China for their roles in supporting dialogue and negotiations.
Shehbaz Sharif particularly acknowledged the role of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, saying the Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces had worked continuously during the negotiation process. He said the army chief remained engaged throughout difficult phases when talks risked collapse, and credited his efforts for contributing to the eventual ceasefire announcement.
The prime minister also praised Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and officials of the Foreign Office for their diplomatic efforts, along with other state institutions involved in the process. He said Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also played an important supporting role in engaging with relevant stakeholders.
He said the conflict had severely affected the global economy and placed additional pressure on Pakistan’s own economic situation. However, he added that Pakistan had taken timely steps to shield its population from the worst effects of inflation.
The prime minister said the nation had shown resilience during the crisis and expressed hope that the peace agreement would contribute to long-term regional and global stability, with economic benefits eventually reaching ordinary citizens.
