Pakistan Army major martyred as security forces kill 12 militants in KP, Balochistan operations

In a statement, the military s media wing said the operation was conducted in the Razmak area after receiving intelligence about the presence of militants belonging to what it described as the Indian proxy Fitna al-Khawarij.

According to the ISPR, security forces engaged the militants, killing five during the operation.

The military said Major Hafiz Ihsan Elahi, 34, a resident of Mianwali district, embraced martyrdom while leading his troops from the front during the exchange of fire.

Weapons and ammunition were recovered from the slain militants, who, according to the ISPR, had been involved in attacks on security forces, law enforcement personnel and civilians.

The military said a sanitisation operation was continuing to clear the area of any remaining militants.

It added that the counterterrorism campaign under Operation Azm-e-Istehkam would continue in coordination with law enforcement agencies against what it described as foreign-sponsored militancy.

Seven militants killed in Nushki operation

In a separate intelligence-based operation in Balochistan s Nushki district, security forces killed seven militants, including a suicide bomber, the ISPR said.

The military said the operation was carried out during the night between July 30 and 31 after intelligence reports indicated the presence of militants belonging to what it described as the Indian proxy Fitna al-Hindustan.

According to the ISPR, security forces identified and monitored the militants  hideout before launching what it described as a prompt and targeted operation that killed all seven militants.

The military said a cache of ammunition and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) was also destroyed during the operation.

A sanitisation operation is continuing in the area to ensure no other militants remain, the statement added.

Violence concentrated in KP and Balochistan

Pakistan has witnessed an increase in militant violence, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, since 2021.

According to a report by the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS), the two provinces accounted for nearly 96% of all violence-related fatalities during the second quarter of 2026.

The report said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa recorded 475 fatalities, accounting for more than 61% of the national total, while Balochistan reported 265 deaths, or around 34%.

KP also recorded the highest number of violent incidents during the period, with 151 cases, followed by Balochistan with 94 incidents.
