The meeting was chaired by PAA Director General Zeeshan Saeed and attended by senior officials from the airport services, engineering and commercial departments.
During the session, officials were instructed to move forward with plans to revive airport operations in Dera Ismail Khan, Turbat, Dalbandin and Saidu Sharif. Discussions also focused on restoring services at Sukkur, New Gwadar and several other airports currently facing operational limitations.
The initiative is part of broader efforts by the Ministry of Defence and the Pakistan Airports Authority to rehabilitate dormant aviation infrastructure and strengthen regional air connectivity across the country.
Earlier this month, operations at Dera Ismail Khan Airport were restored after remaining inactive for several years, marking a significant step in the government s campaign to bring non-operational airports back into service.
Sources said the Ministry of Defence has directed the PAA to expedite the revival process for all inactive airports, aiming to improve transportation links and support economic activity in underserved regions.
The meeting also reviewed matters related to the launch of a new private airline, although officials did not disclose further details about the proposed carrier.
The Pakistan Airports Authority was established through a statutory notification issued on August 9, 2024, under SRO 1216(I)/2024. The authority was created to enhance the management, operation and development of airports and related aviation services throughout Pakistan.
Officials believe that restoring inactive airports will improve domestic air travel, increase accessibility to remote areas and contribute to the growth of Pakistan’s aviation sector.
