The company revealed the move on Wednesday, saying that Facebook Plus, Instagram Plus and WhatsApp Plus will gradually be made available to users worldwide.
Meta’s Head of Product, Naomi Gleit, shared the announcement in an Instagram video, describing the upcoming launch as an exciting step for the company. She said the new subscriptions would combine popular existing features with premium tools designed to give users more functionality across Meta’s platforms and AI-powered products.
Although pricing details have not been officially confirmed, early reports indicate that Facebook Plus and Instagram Plus may cost $3.99 per month, while WhatsApp Plus could be offered for $2.99 monthly.
Gleit said the subscriptions are intended to provide users with enhanced ways to connect, create and express themselves, while additional features will continue to be added over time.
Meta has not yet released a full list of features included in each plan. However, reports suggest that Facebook Plus and Instagram Plus will offer advanced analytics, improved audience reach and greater profile customization options.
WhatsApp Plus is expected to focus on personalization features, including custom themes, app designs and unique ringtone options.
The company also plans to eventually bring its subscription products under a single brand called MetaOne.
According to Gleit, MetaOne will initially provide expanded capabilities for users of Meta AI, including greater processing capacity, support for more complex requests and additional creative tools.
For businesses and content creators, the premium plans are expected to include advanced features for brand management, content enhancement, task automation and account protection.
Gleit acknowledged that Meta is still refining its subscription strategy and will continue testing various models before a broader rollout.
She added that the company ultimately envisions MetaOne as a unified platform that brings together subscription services across all Meta applications.
The announcement comes as Meta faces increased scrutiny over its massive investment in artificial intelligence. The company has projected capital expenditures of between $125 billion and $145 billion this year, with a significant portion allocated to AI-related infrastructure and data centres.
Artificial intelligence already plays a major role across Meta’s platforms. On WhatsApp, Meta AI can answer questions, generate images and assist with planning activities. Facebook uses AI for content moderation and customer support, while Instagram integrates AI into search functions, direct messaging and caption generation.
Meta currently reaches approximately 3.9 billion active users each month worldwide, making it one of the largest digital platforms in the world.
