The meeting of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee was held to sight the moon, chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad. In addition to committee members, representatives from the Meteorological Department and SUPARCO also attended the session.
Zonal Ruet-e-Hilal Committee meetings were simultaneously held in Islamabad and all four provincial capitals.
After reviewing testimonies and evidence received from different parts of the country, the Central Committee concluded that the Shawwal moon was not sighted anywhere in Pakistan.
In Peshawar, the zonal committee received six testimonies—five via telephone and one in person. However, these reports could not be verified and were therefore deemed unacceptable. Similarly, no credible moon-sighting evidence was reported from any part of Balochistan during the meeting of the zonal committee in Quetta.
Following a comprehensive review, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee officially announced that Eid-ul-Fitr will be observed on March 21.
Meanwhile, India has also announced that the Shawwal moon was not sighted, and Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on March 21. According to Indian media, the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee in Delhi confirmed that no moon sighting was reported across the country.
Similar announcements were made in cities including Lucknow and Hyderabad, where local religious bodies also declared March 21 as Eid.
In addition, reports indicate that the Shawwal moon was not sighted in Malaysia, Indonesia, and Bangladesh as well, where Eid-ul-Fitr will likewise be observed on Saturday, March 21.
