According to police, the ambulance was travelling through the Mirakhel police station area when it came under attack during the night. All four occupants died at the scene, while the attackers fled before law enforcement officials arrived.
Police and rescue teams reached the site soon after the incident and shifted the bodies to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital.
The identities of the deceased could not be confirmed immediately as no identification documents were found. Authorities said the bodies would be handed over to their families once the identification process is completed.
Police sealed the crime scene and collected forensic evidence. Initial investigations suggest the attack may have been an act of terrorism, although officials said all possible angles are being examined.
A search operation has been launched to trace and arrest the attackers, while further investigations are underway.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi took notice of the incident and sought a detailed report from the Inspector General of Police.
The chief minister condemned the killing of innocent civilians, expressed condolences to the victims families and directed law enforcement agencies to intensify operations against elements attempting to disrupt peace and security in the province.
He also assured the bereaved families of the provincial government s full support and prayed for the departed souls and strength for their families.
