The visit marks Prince Rahim’s first official trip to Pakistan since assuming leadership of the global Ismaili community following the passing of his father, Prince Karim Aga Khan IV, whose humanitarian footprint in Pakistan stretched across decades.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, discussions focused heavily on the longstanding relationship between Pakistan and the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), an institution widely regarded for its work in education, healthcare, rural development, climate resilience, and poverty reduction.

Prime Minister Shehbaz praised AKDN’s role in some of Pakistan’s most geographically isolated regions, particularly Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral, where its schools, hospitals, and community programmes have often filled gaps left by weak infrastructure and difficult terrain.

What stood out in the conversation was not just diplomatic warmth, but a shared emphasis on long-term resilience. Climate adaptation, renewable energy, digital skills, and youth entrepreneurship emerged as central themes areas increasingly viewed as essential for Pakistan’s future stability rather than optional development goals.

The prime minister also described AKDN as a natural and trusted partner in tackling climate vulnerability, especially in Pakistan’s fragile northern regions where glacier melt and extreme weather are becoming harder to ignore each year.

In a gesture layered with both respect and continuity, PM Shehbaz presented a commemorative stamp honouring the late Aga Khan IV’s services to Pakistan, calling his humanitarian legacy both enduring and deeply valued.

Prince Rahim, in return, thanked the government for the warm reception and reaffirmed his commitment to sustaining collaboration through initiatives aimed at improving quality of life and expanding opportunity.

The meeting carried a quiet but noticeable message: while governments often shift with politics, institutions built around education, healthcare, and community trust tend to leave a longer shadow. And in Pakistan’s northern regions especially, that shadow is already deeply rooted.
