The man reportedly staged the theft of his own car, weaving an elaborate story to evade the ordeal of accompanying his spouse to the stores.
According to local authorities, the peculiar incident initially came to light in April, though the police only revealed the details to the press in October. The saga began when a distressed woman phoned the emergency services, reporting that her husband’s car had been stolen from a parking area near their home. Not long after, she called again, this time claiming the vehicle had been found abandoned on the island of Otdykha, near Krasnoyarsk.
When officers arrived to inspect the supposedly stolen car, they discovered telltale signs of forced entry, a damaged ignition and visible scratches around the door locks. Yet something about the husband’s demeanor struck them as slightly amiss. Upon deeper investigation, their suspicions began to crystallize.
After a thorough review of the evidence, police concluded that the man had concocted the entire drama simply to sidestep an afternoon of shopping with his wife. What began as a mundane domestic disagreement transformed into a full-fledged police inquiry, all because one man sought refuge from the relentless racks of retail.
While the authorities have not disclosed whether charges will be pressed, the incident has sparked amusement online, with many sympathizing, albeit lightheartedly, with the man’s unconventional bid for freedom.
Sometimes, it seems, the lengths one might go to escape a shopping trip can be far more exhausting than the trip itself.
