According to a recent study published in the British Journal of Medicine, drinking tea or coffee while it is hot can reduce anxiety and help regulate emotions.
The study highlights that beyond the ingredients, the temperature of beverages plays a significant role in both mental and physical health. Researchers observed how the temperature of food and drinks affects the body and brain, involving over 400 adult participants in the study.
Findings revealed that individuals who prefer cold beverages like iced tea or coffee were more likely to experience anxiety and sleep disturbances. In contrast, those accustomed to drinking hot beverages reported lower levels of depression, better sleep quality, and improved digestive health.
The research also noted that people with poor blood circulation are often more sensitive to cold foods and drinks. Previous studies have similarly suggested that consuming warm food and beverages aids digestion and helps maintain emotional stability.
So, how many cups of tea are ideal?
Various studies have tried to answer this. Some recommend 2 to 4 cups per day, while others claim that up to 10 cups daily may not harm health. Medical experts, however, generally suggest that 3 to 5 cups a day are safe for most individuals. Drinking more than this may have adverse effects, depending on the body’s reaction to the compounds in tea.
In short, it’s not just what you drink but how you drink it—and a warm cup of tea may be a simple yet effective way to support both mental and physical well-being.
