The UNICEF delegation included Jennifer Milton, Chief of Child Protection at UNICEF Pakistan, Rameez Behbudov, Chief Field Officer for Punjab, and Zahida Manzoor, Programme Lead for Child Protection.
During the meeting, both sides held a detailed and meaningful discussion on ongoing and upcoming initiatives in the field of child protection. Chairperson Sarah Ahmed shared a comprehensive overview of the Child Protection Bureau, highlighting its establishment, scope of work, services, and overall performance.
She informed the delegation about various projects being implemented with UNICEF’s support. She stated that, in collaboration with UNICEF Pakistan, a Child Protection Policy has been developed, while effective progress is being made on the Child Protection Case Management System, prevention programmes, and other reform focused initiatives.
She also noted that Child Protection Units, supported by UNICEF, are actively working across different districts of Punjab to provide essential services to vulnerable children.
On this occasion, Chairperson Sarah Ahmed also gave the delegation a guided tour of different sections of the Child Protection Bureau. The delegation visited the children’s hostels, Child Protection School, and the sports complex, and appreciated the facilities provided for the physical, educational, and emotional development of children.
The UNICEF delegation met with children residing at the bureau and expressed satisfaction with the safety, care, education, and welfare measures in place. They praised the efforts made under the leadership of Sarah Ahmed and described the initiatives for child welfare as commendable and impactful.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both the Child Protection Bureau and UNICEF Pakistan agreed to further strengthen mutual cooperation and develop a shared roadmap for future collaboration. The UNICEF delegation reaffirmed its commitment to continue providing full support for the welfare and protection of children.
