When travelers share their bag’s location via Find Hub, airline teams can access that information directly within WorldTracer®. This additional source of data complements traditional tracking methods, such as airport scans and airline-to-airline exchanges, allowing recovery teams to narrow search areas and prioritise cases more effectively.
The process is fully passenger-controlled. Travelers generate a secure link via Find Hub and provide it to the airline. Sharing can be paused or stopped at any time, links expire automatically, and all location data is encrypted to ensure privacy.
Nicole Hogg, Portfolio Director for Baggage at SITA, said, “When passengers choose to share their bag’s location, airlines gain insight at the moment it matters most. This reflects how baggage recovery is becoming more transparent, more collaborative, and more precise.”
WorldTracer®, used by over 500 airlines and ground handlers across 2,800 airports worldwide, now supports secure location sharing from major consumer platforms. This move highlights the broader industry trend toward open, secure data exchange to improve operational performance and enhance passenger experience.
According to the SITA 2025 Baggage IT Insights report, mishandling rates have fallen by 67% over the past two decades, even as passenger volumes more than doubled. Integrating passenger-authorized location data represents a further step toward smarter, data-supported baggage recovery for the global aviation industry.v
