Known for her powerful voice, timeless performances on PTV, and her vocal resemblance to the legendary Malika e Tarannum Noor Jehan, Tarannum Naz recently appeared on a private TV show after a long break from the spotlight.
During the program, she spoke not only about her artistic journey but also about a deeply personal matter. While answering a question from the host, she revealed that she built a house with her hard earned money and later transferred it to her children’s names.
‘At that time,’ she said, ‘my children were young. I believed they were my own flesh and blood and would never be driven by greed.’
However, she explained that life took an unexpected turn as her children grew older and got married. After having children of their own, they began asking for their legal share of the property something she was bound by law to give.
Although she acknowledged that her children still care for her and look after her needs, she pointed out a painful truth. The position of parents changes when the property is no longer in their own name.
With visible honesty, Tarannum Naz admitted, ‘Now I feel this was my greatest mistake. I wish I had not made this decision.’
Tarannum Naz received formal training in classical music from Ustad Ashiq Hussain and further refined her talent under the guidance of Noor Jehan herself. In recognition of her outstanding contribution to classical music, she has also been awarded the Presidential Pride of Performance.
