Trading at the Pakistan Stock Exchange stayed largely range bound throughout the session. The index touched an intraday high of 172,167 points and a low of 170,859 points, reflecting weak directional conviction. Market participants preferred selective, stock specific positions rather than broad based buying.
Sector wise performance remained mixed. Selling pressure was mainly observed in banking, fertiliser, energy, cement and power stocks, while some buying interest emerged in the investment and food sectors.
As a result, the benchmark KSE-100 Index closed at 171,204.18 points, down 200 points or 0.12 percent, after moving within a narrow intraday range.
In its market wrap, KTrade Securities said the PSX began the rollover week on a quiet note, with range bound trading and relatively low volumes in the regular counter. The brokerage noted that selling pressure was seen in major stocks including Habib Bank Limited, United Bank Limited, Fauji Fertiliser Company, Pakistan State Oil, Cherat Cement and Hub Power Company.
Selective support, however, came from Lucky Cement, Engro Holdings, Fatima Fertiliser and Rafhan Maize Products.
Despite the marginal decline, overall market participation remained reasonable. All share volumes stood at 682 million shares, indicating adequate liquidity and continued investor interest.
KTrade said the broader market outlook remains constructive, supported by improving macroeconomic conditions following the recent policy rate cut by the State Bank of Pakistan. However, with rollover activity underway and a shortened trading week, investors are expected to remain cautious in the near term.
Total trading volume fell to 684.5 million shares compared to 797.5 million shares in the previous session, while the value of traded stocks stood at Rs30.1 billion. Shares of 486 companies were traded, of which 143 advanced, 288 declined and 55 remained unchanged.
K-Electric led the volume chart with 112.7 million shares traded, rising by Rs0.25 to close at Rs6.10.
